A patinated and gilt bronze okimono depicting the famous warrior Fujiwara no Yasumasa playing the flute, signed Miyao. His hitatare, flowing in the wind, is adorned with phoenix and foliage motifs. The wooden base, typical of Miyao's works, is decorated with hiramaki-e gold lacquer.

Miyao of Yokohama, among the most renowned bronze makers of the Meiji period, is celebrated for his finely crafted bronzes with brown patina and gilt details. In addition to these, and in limited numbers, he also produced okimono in wood and ivory, as showcased at the Second National Industrial Exhibition in 1881.
