"Michael Dahl (1659–1743), Follower Of - Portrait Of A Lady In A Blue Dress"
- Oil on canvas.- In this fabulous female portrait from the end of the 17th century, one can read many key elements of Georgian painting that would later become the backdrop for the magnificent paintings of Lawrence, Reynolds and Romney. The dreamy and absorbed expression of the lady and the beautiful work done on the mohairs and blues that make up the dress undoubtedly link the work to the Anglo-Swedish artist Michael Dahl. Trained at the Germanic courts, and later under the direction of Kneller, Dahl managed to calm the excesses of the Baroque in his painting, producing sober, balanced and pleasing images, nevertheless imbued with the measured and solemn British pomp.- Dimensions of the unframed image: 76 x 64 cm / 106 x 95 cm with magnificent historicist frame of laurels, scrolls and wreaths.
