" Spanish School (c. 1600) - Regina Coeli"
- Oil on canvas.- The depiction of the Immaculate Conception passes through many stages before reaching the climatic models of Bartolomé Esteban de Murillo in Seville at the end of the 17th century. This scene, distinguished by the prodigious delicacy of its brushwork and the beauty of the Virgin's face, uses as a comparative resource a series of metaphors drawn from Scripture and the Litanies to highlight the chastity of the Virgin's conception, from the Turris Eburnea (Ivory Tower) in the lower left corner, to the Hortus Clausus (Walled Garden) at the opposite end. A painting by a master hand, which will complement any collection of old master paintings with its balanced Mannerist portrait of Mary.- Dimensions of the image without frame: 75 x 93 cm / 91 x 109 cm with elegant frame.
