Philips Wouwerman (1619-1668), Follower Of - Leaving An Inn

- Oil on panel.- A magnificent equestrian scene set in a stable filled with magnificently built beasts, which dimly illuminate two openings so that the light, distilled by the terrible storm, highlights the movement of the riders and the musculature of their mounts. The artist's strong debt to the great Dutch battle painters of the 17th century, such as Wouverman, Snayers and Wranckx, allows for an agile and harmonious resolution of the whole, topped by some figures of grooms, a superb general in a plumed hat and a dog observing the unfolding of events from the ground. The work is presented in very good condition, with the paint layer intact, on a hand-planed oak board.- Unframed image dimensions: 43 x 31 cm / 57 x 44.5 cm with an elegant custom frame.
