"Rare Fish Globe. Blown Glass From The 18th Century"
Fish globe in colorless, blown, translucent glass. Beautiful spherical shape resting on a baluster foot finished with a wide circular base surrounded by a molding. Jacqueline Belanger notes in her book: Verre d'usage et de prestige – France 1500-1800: "The term aquarium appeared in the 19th century when it became fashionable in all social classes; earlier, the term "fish globes" was used. And again: "The La Pierre glassworks, near Coudrecieux in the Sarthe department, manufactured fish globes in 1804."
