ART NOUVEAU-JUGENSTIL-VIENNESE SECESSION BRONZE VASE/SCULPTURE VIENNA CIRCA 1910F. STEVENS "THE AWAKENING OF THE NYMPH" F. Stevens is an Austrian sculptor born in Vienna in 1868. He studied at the prestigious Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. Subsequently, he was part of the Viennese Secession, which was part of Jugendstil (Art Nouveau) and was known and recognized for his talent as a sculptor, mainly bronzes. Naiad/sylph/nymph awakening is a bronze vase/sculpture decorated with a nymph stretching at rest on the neck among a vegetal and floral decoration of flowers and water lily leaves. The naiad represents the taking of the vase, her hair undulating in waves spreading over the spout of the said vase/sculpture. Austria, Vienna, 1910. This vase has a patina due to the erosion of time, oxidation and most certainly to a punctual burial during its journey. The signature is hidden in the decor and its corrosion.
