She wears a black turban adorned with tight curls, a hairstyle also typical of this period. The miniature is signed Hamm and dated 1809. This French miniature painter was active between 1806 and 1810. He is known for his refined portraits, often made on ivory or enamel. He represented members of the nobility or the upper middle class.
