"18th Century Painted Wrought Iron Safe"
Rare and decorative wrought iron chest from the 18th century, with a riveted structure and a top with massive hinges. It is most likely an old security or valuables transport chest (post, customs, military or commercial use) converted in the 19th century into a decorative object. The particularity of this chest lies in its painted decoration in romantic style: animated port scenes, sailboats, and classical architecture in frames with floral motifs, surrounded by friezes of roses. The whole is highlighted with golden threads in a very refined taste. Closing system by central latch with eyelets for padlocks. Side handles in original wrought iron. Has its key.
