"Triumph Of Galatea Capodimonte Manufacturing First Half Of The 19th Century"
Glazed white ceramic depicting the Triumph of Galatea. The nymph is depicted on a shell-shaped chariot, pulled by three dolphins with the features of sea monsters; a drapery encircles her body, while with her raised hands she holds a cloth inflated by the sea breeze, aided by a mermaid behind her. Also participating in the scene are a pair of cupids, one riding one of the dolphins while the other is leaning on Galatea's legs, and a sea deity who is blowing into a shell. The figures are placed on a base worked to emulate the waves of the sea, while the lower part is finished with a frame decorated with leaf motifs.
