"En-suite Set Of A Writing Table And Its Writing Desk In Gold Lacquer"
A very fine and rare set comprising a writing table (bundai) and its writing desk (suzuri) in gold lacquer, hira and taka maki-e and kirigane. The decoration represents a thatched cottage placed on an island with a tea house in the background, surrounded by pine trees. On the edge of the table, finely chiseled silver fittings complete the very high quality of the table. The writing desk uses the same grammar of lacquer criteria used with inside a silver ink stone and water pourer decorated with flying cranes. The lid represents mountains and pine trees always represented with great finesse. The original wooden boxes and calligraphy accompany the set. Period: late Edo early Meiji 19th century.
