Two tiny holes on the canvas.
This portrait of an aristocrat could represent the effigy of General La Fayette.
The gentleman is presented in profile, captured from the waist up. His attitude is calm and serene.
Dressed in a blue coat with a high collar and lapels from which emerges a lace jabot, his headdress, wig or natural hair, is held by a dark silk ribbon. Against the background stands out the initial medallion shape intended to surround the composition.
The model's features are finely sketched, the rosy complexion of the face is delicately suggested while numerous white highlights illuminate her face, underline the rolls of her headdress or surround the edges of her jacket.
