"Pair Of Louis XV Style Gilt Bronze Andirons"
A delightful pair of gilt bronze andirons, attributed to the style of Jacques Caffieri, a famous 18th-century bronze-worker and official purveyor to the court of Louis XV. Each andiron adopts the form of a rocaille scroll animated by oriental figures: a young boy holding a jug and a young woman in a turban, both finely chiseled. Their lively and expressive posture is in keeping with the French Rococo tradition, blending fantasy, exoticism, and decorative virtuosity. These spectacular pieces combine elegance and movement, and demonstrate the ornamental refinement of the Age of Enlightenment. A rare decorative work, ideal for enhancing a classical interior or a period fireplace. It should be noted that the hearth bar for their support is missing.
