Object description :

"Landscape Of The Alpilles, Oil On Canvas By Roland Oudot"
Roland Oudot was a French painter and lithographer. He also produced engravings, murals, theater sets, and book illustrations. He committed suicide in Paris on July 10, 1981. Oudot was a student at the École nationale supérieure des arts décoratifs (where he would later become a teacher himself) from 1912 to 1915, in the studio of Eugène Edouard Morand. In 1915, he became Léon Bakst's assistant for the Ballets Russes (until the latter's death in 1923), and it was Bakst who introduced him to the painting of Paul Cézanne, Pierre Bonnard, and Édouard Vuillard, the first two of whom were to have a lasting influence on him. At the same time, however, in 1919-1920, he was a furniture and fabric designer for Louis Süe and André Mare. Influenced by the pictorial modernity of the early 20th century, the Fauves and the Cubists in particular, his work evolved towards a style imbued with the French tradition of landscape, marked by the figure of Jean-Baptiste Camille Corot. Roland Oudot was part of the group of painters of poetic reality composed of seven other artists (Maurice Brianchon, Raymond Legueult (becoming friends in 1918 with these first two who would be his two co-exhibitors at the Salon d'Automne in 1919), Christian Caillard, Jules Cavaillès, Roger Limouse, André Planson and Kostia Terechkovitch). For René Huyghe, they are then "those who do not want to give up pleasing, this gift scorned by the 20th century, by the subject and appearances, as in the past, but also by the liberation of colors, this gift of the present Signed lower right, on the back: label of the Galerie Cardo, and on the canvas a stamp of Roland Oudot. The frame is to be restored.
