" Carved Medici Casket, Medieval Period. Italy - 14th Century."

Late medieval chest carved in walnut, with on the lid the central representations of the Medici coat of arms with six (rotating) spheres, five of which are now missing. The shape of the late medieval coat of arms is protected by two opposing winged dragons. On the front and back, an eagle holds two war axes in its talons. Leafy volutes and two opposing pigeons with rosettes and arrows enrich the panels. On the sides, a reticulated decoration with mosaic squares. The walnut frame is missing its original lock.
