Object description :

"Heavy Cavalry Saber Model 1822, Klingenthal 1824 / Cuirassier Lancer Carabinier Dragooner Line"
Impressive and rare heavy cavalry saber model 1822 called "bancal".
Only about 25,000 such sabers were produced from 1822 to 1851. It armed the cuirassier, carabinier, lancer and dragooner regiments.
It is an early manufacture of August 1824.
Brass mount matriculated "8089", four-branched guard, wooden handle covered in black leather with twisted brass filigree (slightly distended). Short tail cap.
The main branch of the guard is hallmarked with the "D" of Jean Dubocq, director of the Klingenthal Manufactory from 1823 to 1830 as well as the number 27. Presence of a third illegible hallmark.
The underside of the guard plate is hallmarked with the "L" of François Lobstein, controller.
Beautiful curved blade in the Montmorency style with a length of 97 cm. It is marked "Manufacture Royale de Klingenthal août 1824" and is hallmarked with the "D" of Dubocq and the "B" of the controller Jean-Georges Bick.  It also bears the number 22 on the left side.
Steel scabbard with two rings.
Total length 117 cm
Very good general condition with no play between the guard and the blade. Slight traces of old oxidation on the blade and the scabbard.
