Travel Cutlery Set composed of two knives with ivory handles and silver ferrules, presented in a black leather case.
This set is the result of an assemblage between two 19th-century knives and an 18th-century case.
- One of the knives has a silver blade, bearing an indistinct hallmark along with the mark A. Chapus Paris.
A. Chapus appears to have been a silversmithing, jewelry, watchmaking, and bronze house, founded in 1797 at 86 Rue de Rivoli under the sign À La Gerbe d’Or.
- The second knife has a steel blade with no markings.
- The case, covered in black leather over a wooden core, opens with a push-button mechanism and reveals a red felt interior designed to hold the knives.
- A distinction between the two handles is visible when the knives are stored, thanks to a notched decoration on the handle of the knife with the steel blade.
