Pair of large carved vases – Japan, Meiji period (1868–1912). Rare and impressive pair of hexagonal vases from Japan, Meiji period, carved in a natural bone-like material. The finely engraved decoration depicts traditional Japanese scenes: figures in kimono, birds, peonies and other floral motifs. Each vase is topped with an openwork structure containing a carved figurine, evoking a miniature temple or pavilion. Typical pieces of Japanese art exported at the end of the 19th century, in the midst of the Japonisme movement. Dimensions: Height: 32 cm Width at the base: approx. 8 cm Condition: Very good overall condition with a beautiful patina. Possible small marks of age, without altering the quality of presentation. Rare collector's items, perfect for a refined Asian decoration or an antique shop window.
