Roses Of Life: Horn Composition Box, 1st Empire Period, Pretty Rebus

Pretty object in its black livery, typical of galleries du Palais Royal  early 19th century,
it was a gift laden with meaning: a box made of horn and tortoiseshell powder, hot-molded, offering on lid a beautiful antique composition, presented by two vestals from Temple of Love, and an unequivocal rebus: Fidelity, Love, Friendship, in turn make roses of Life....
Underside of box features a guilloché decoration, edge of lid is inlaid with polished steel discs, alternating with gilded inlays, which brighten with their contrast the seriousness of black background.
A beautiful object, elegant, at period: a prestigious gift.

Good general condition, two small missing gilded inlays, little visible, some wear on surface.
