Bronze with black patina, circa 1950-60. Some slight oxidation - signed on the terrace. In 1917, studied with Tobari Kogan (student of Rodin), entered the Research Institute of the Pacific Painting Association. From 1924 to 1928 he stayed in France and spent these four years as a student of Aristide Maillol (he was the only one to have had this opportunity). Upon his return he extended his production to dry lacquer, thus mixing Western-style forms and ancestral Japanese material. 1951 - Exhibited at the 1st Sao Paulo Biennale - Member of the Japan Academy of Fine Arts in 1952 - professor at the Tokyo University of the Arts In 1983, he was awarded the Order of Cultural Merit - Works notably at the Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo (as well as the Akone Museum, Sapporo). - A certificate and illustrated biography will be given to the purchaser.
