Impressive bronze sculpture depicting a bison in motion, the work of the famous Russian sculptor Robert Robertovich Bach, active between the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The composition expresses great dynamic force and vitality, distinctive characteristics of Bach's plastic language, known for his ability to capture the anatomical realism and power of the animal world.
The surface treatment is of high quality, with a warm and vibrant patina that enhances the modeling. The animal is portrayed with considerable muscular tension and a naturalistic rendering of the coat and posture, while the base harmoniously integrates the rocky setting, contributing to the visual solidity of the work.
A member of the Academy of Fine Arts in St. Petersburg, Robert Robertovich Bach taught sculpture and won numerous awards in his homeland. He collaborated with the Kaslinsky Foundry in the Urals for 15 years and also created a series of sculptural portraits of important figures of Russian culture, including the bust of Piotr Tchaikovsky
The bronze examined represents a bison from the Białowieża Forest, a nature reserve famous for its wildlife.
This sculpture represents a significant testimony to the Russian animalier production of the time, influenced by European naturalist currents and the great artisan tradition of bronze casting.
