Taking up the iconoclastic and naive style of his father Paul-Émile, a Vendée fisherman who became a painter. Gilbert Pajot made his career by producing portraits of boats, ports and fishing scenes. This unique and recognizable style among many others is marked by the influence of Japanese iconography which spread in Europe at the end of the 19th century. His work, like that of his father, constitutes one of the most beautiful bodies of naive maritime art.
