*François Victor Bazin (1897-1956)

Born in Paris to parents of Breton origin, he is a sculptor, engraver and medalist. He studied at the École des Arts Décoratifs and the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts in Paris, where he was a student of Édouard Navellier, Denys Puech and Jean-Antoine Injalbert. Mobilized in January 1916 during the First World War, he joined the Spa 164 CF fighter squadron commanded by Captain Henry de Nompère de Champagny (1890-1944). François Bazin was contacted after the war by the Hispano Suiza Company to create the radiator cap for their future automobiles, using the bird motif adorning the fuselages of Guynemer's victorious squadron. Between 1920 and 1935, François Bazin created a large number of automobile radiator caps as well as large monuments in granite or bronze. Winner of numerous prizes (fine arts, national prize), François Bazin stayed in Italy at the Villa Medici, in Greece, in Egypt (1929) and in Madagascar (1956), where he created statues and charcoal portraits. In 1929 he won the gold medal at the Salon des Artistes Français and was awarded the National Prize for his work Aux Bigoudens, terre de pardons et de légendes in Pors-Car en Penmarch. He presented three decorative bas-reliefs for the thermal spa palace at the 1937 Arts and Technology Exhibition in Paris.
