"Engraving By Mrs. Vigée Le Brun. Dated In The Year 5."
Beautiful engraving depicting Mrs. Lebrun and her daughter Jeanne Lucie Louise. Engraved after the famous painting painted in 1786 and preserved at the Louvre Museum. Our original engraving was printed by Avril in the year 5 of the Republic (1796-1797) and entitled "La tendresse Maternelle". Presented in its period gilt wood stick. Beautiful condition (some light foxing and small tear at the bottom left). Note: the interesting inscription "Société des amis des Arts" corresponding to the first private collective patronage (founded in 1789). This was to encourage the production of contemporary artists of the time. Interrupted during the terror, the society gradually resumed its activities in 1797, the date of our engraving.
