Henri Houdebine created his company in 1845 where he gained a good reputation in the manufacture of decorative bronzes and clocks. His works, considered to be of high quality, were inspired, among other styles, by the neo-Greek decorative repertoire, then very fashionable in the 1860s. His works were an immediate success with the public and it is estimated that as early as 1855, 50% of his production was exported. Houdebine is found established at 64, rue de Turenne, in the period 1865-1880. He participated brilliantly in several Universal Exhibitions, such as those held in Paris in 1855, where he was awarded a 2nd class medal for cups and statuettes, in London in 1862, and again in Paris in 1867, 1878 and 1889, where he won a gold medal for all his exhibited works. Houdebine is found at the Universal Exhibition in Chicago in 1893, presenting torchères, clocks and even some sculptures.
