"Monoxyle - Carved Shepherd's Spoon - Dated 1888, Monogrammed Ga - Folk Art "
Dating: 1888 Origin: France – Massif Central or Pyrenees Large rustic spoon carved from solid wood, typical of the pastoral world, dated 1888 and monogrammed GA, probably the initials of the shepherd or the recipient. This type of object, fashioned during long evenings or during summer pastures, is as much a matter of daily use as an emotional and protective gesture. The top of the handle is decorated with a five-pointed star, encircled by incised festoons – a motif found in folk art as a sign of orientation, vigilance or inner faith. On the back of the handle, a stylized tree of life completes the symbolism: rooting, growth, lineage. The decoration, although sober, is balanced and executed with a clear intention: to inscribe in the wood the marks of an identity, a territory, a silent link between the gesture and nature. The object retains all its tactile qualities, and a warm patina accentuated by use, particularly in the spoon, hollowed by hand. This is a rare and touching piece, representative of this modest but dense art of living, where the utilitarian object becomes a support for intimate expression. Dimensions: 18 cm Condition: very good overall condition, minimal wear of time, small old chip at the top of the handle. ALL DELIVERIES ARE MADE BY DHL EXPRESS ONLY.
