Rare secret box simulating a Louis XVI chest of drawers.
This box dating from the end of the 18th century, beginning of the 19th century is very original and unusual.
It resembles a miniature chest of drawers like the masterpieces of companion or this type of reduction but by its proportions it is indeed a box opening on half of the body.
Mounted on oak, it is veneered with flamed mahogany leaves, decorated with lemon tree fillets forming a geometric decoration on the four faces of simulated drawers as well as on the rear uprights and the front uprights.
The keyholes are in mother-of-pearl and the pull knobs in bronze.
Like some Louis XVI chests of drawers, we find on this box a projection front, as well as another projection on the rear uprights.
The Louis XVI feet end with bronze knobs. A clever secret system formed by a sliding trapdoor on the The facade allows the keyhole to be cleared and thus forms a hiding place for the key.
A remarkable piece of cabinetmaking work given the small scale.
Carried out in the 18th century, it has suffered little damage and therefore has few restorations, finished with French polish.
A beautiful and very original box.
