Important marquetry and gilt bronze cabinet, attributable to Joseph-Emmanuel Zwiener or François Linke – Paris, circa 1880-1890 Louis XV style cabinet of remarkable quality, attributable to the two greatest Parisian cabinetmakers of the late 19th century: Joseph-Emmanuel Zwiener or François Linke. The curved structure is in precious wood veneer, with chevroned frieze marquetry executed with rare precision and elegance. Rich decoration of finely chiseled mercury-gilt milk bronzes, with floral, foliate and rocaille motifs, typical of the productions of these two masters. The liveliness of the design and the quality of the gilding testify to elite workshop work. The top is topped with superb breccia marble, in warm tones mixing yellow, red, ochre and beige, carefully molded. The locks signed Duvivier in Paris, active on the rue du Faubourg Saint-Antoine, reinforce the attribution, Duvivier having supplied both Zwiener and Linke. This cabinet combines all the attributes of the great prestige commissions of the Belle Époque: refinement, virtuosity and decorative refinement.
