It has defects (hand, etc.).
Polychrome wooden sculpture of a woman, with the head, neck, and hands carved and polychromed in detail, a sketched dress, and exposed wooden arms. Iconographically, it is probably a Virgin Mary, made this way because she was intended to be dressed and adorned with hairpieces (hence the work on the skull). The folds on the front, uncommon in this type of work, which resemble clothing, are remarkable. He wears a closed royal crown. Carvings of clothing or attire were very common in the Spanish Baroque period, and there may be works where the invisible part is barely sketched and others where the whole is carved, with many intermediate points (see the present case). Let us recall the San Antonio Abad by Benito Silveira, executed in the second half of the 18th century, which is in the Museo Nacional de Escultura de Valladolid, an 18th century San Francisco de Paula in the Museo del Carmen de Maipú (Santiago de Chile), etc. -
