"Limousin Email, Entombment 17th Century. "
Pretty and rare oval enamel plaque painted on copper representing the laying of Christ in the tomb. It is presented in a 17th century carved and gilded wooden frame, original gilding. Apart from a small lack at the bottom left of the plaque, the condition is very good. The frame is in its original old gilding. The enamel colors are superb and the gilding highlights are very fresh. I do not guarantee that the frame is the original one but it is indeed from the period. The mounting must have been reconditioned as can be seen in the photos on the back but it is also possible that everything is original, just refixed a few years ago. 17th century frames of this format are particularly rare. No restorations to the enamel. Rare work from the 17th century, perhaps even from the end of the 16th. Dimensions: 20cm by 17cm.
