"Large 19th Century Neoclassical Painting...rare Portrait Of The Italian Painter "raphael""
Large 19th century painting representing a portrait of Raphael, the famous Italian Renaissance painter, whose real name was Raffaello Sanzio (1483-1520). The painting is not signed but its beautiful quality suggests the presence of an excellent artist... The finesse and realism of the face point towards French neoclassical art and one thinks of the style of Jean-Auguste Dominique Ingres (1780-1867): after the French Revolution, there was a revival of so-called "classical" painting in France and Ingres was one of the first great artists to be inspired by Raphael... He taught this style to the students of his workshop and himself produced several replicas of Raphael's paintings... see also a composition by Ingres entitled "Raphael and the Fornarina"... note: the canvas offered here has never been examined by an expert but its beautiful quality would merit investigations... Its disturbing appearance is located in the beauty and sensuality that emanate from Raphael's face... -Note the presence of an enigmatic date in Roman numeral MDXXI: this means 1521 while Raphael died in 1520? Canvas (relining): 61 cm x 50 cm Frame: 82 cm x 71 cm - examination with a Wood lamp (ultraviolet) shows some old repainting, without consequences on the quality of the work / ask me for other photos if necessary-
