Dimensions: 46 / 38 cm Armand Seguin, born April 17, 1869 in Paris and died July 3, 1903 in Châteauneuf-du-Faou, is a French painter and engraver associated with the post-impressionist movement and the Pont-Aven school. Grandson of the engineer Marc Seguin, he grew up in a cultured environment but moved away from traditional ways to devote himself to art. Self-taught, he discovered Brittany and from 1891 joined the artists gathered around Paul Gauguin in Pont-Aven, then in Pouldu. Influenced by the synthetism of Gauguin and Émile Bernard, he developed a personal style combining flat colors, stylized forms, and decorative lines, serving a symbolist and poetic vision. He was also a talented engraver, leaving behind a sensitive and mystical graphic oeuvre. A fragile man, plagued by financial difficulties, alcoholism, and illness, he died prematurely at the age of 34. Long overlooked, his work is now being rediscovered and recognized as an original contribution to late 19th-century art.
