"Miniature Bust In Gold, Italy, 19th Century"
Miniature bust in chased yellow gold, probably representing a prelate or an ecclesiastical notable. The lower part is adorned with a fine belt of Princess-cut rubies (two missing). It rests on a pedestal decorated with foliate scrolls and finely chased rocaille elements.
The face, finely sculpted in the round, is made of a material difficult to identify with certainty due to the reduced dimensions of this small masterpiece, but the apparent hardness and the color suggest boxwood or a hard stone.
Italian work from the Neoclassical period, early 19th century.
