The vases are signed "Motonobu" on a gilded plaque under their base, one also bears the signature "Masayuki" on a red coral cartouche inlaid in one of the Shibayama decorations.
These vases are therefore the result of the collaboration of two prestigious artists of the Meiji era. In addition, Yamada Motonobu, who settled in Edo around 1872, honored numerous commissions from the famous Ozeki company and also worked for the imperial family.
