"17th Century Roman School "jesus Among The Doctors""
17th Century Roman School “Jesus among the Doctors”103 x 71 cmGood conditionJesus among the Doctors is a fresco (200 x 185 cm) by Giotto, dating from around 1303-1305 and part of the cycle in the Scrovegni Chapel in Padua. It is included in the Stories of Jesus, in the upper central register, on the left wall, facing the altar. The scene takes place inside the Temple in Jerusalem, where the twelve-year-old Jesus is lost by his parents who find him discussing religion and philosophy with the doctors. Set in an interior environment, with naves covered with groin vaults, niches, a coffered ceiling and plant festoons, the perspective is intuitively shifted to the right, in order to facilitate the viewer's gaze. The scene is in fact set in the corner of the left wall, next to the Last Judgment, on the back wall. On a seat, the young Jesus, dressed in red, is discussing with ten Magi, depicted bearded (like the ancient philosophers) and wrapped in hooded cloaks. On the left, Joseph and Mary run up. The Virgin stretches out her arms, expressing, with an everyday gesture, her apprehension at the loss of the child. Giuseppe also raises his hand, struck by the shock of the situation. The space is vast and monumental, unlike the more restricted one of the previous episodes.
