Marquetry of various fantastic woods, including ebony (black in color). Tortoiseshell and bone were also used.
An art cabinet (or Kunstkammer) was used from the 16th century onwards to collect and display special objects. It was a kind of private museum for wealthy collectors, princes, or scholars. Works of art, scientific instruments, exotic objects, minerals, fossils, and curiosities were kept here.
The aim was both aesthetic and educational: to impress visitors, but also to order and symbolically understand the world and nature.
Everything works as it should. No marquetry pieces are missing. With the exception of one drawer lock, all the locks work properly.
