Sosaku hanga
Nishiki-e
Masao Ido was born in Beipiao, in the northeast of China. After his family returned to his hometown of Kyoto in 1960, he began his artistic career under the direction of Koho Yoshida. He affirmed his taste for sosaku hanga from 1972. Under the tutelage of Shigechika Ohtsubo, Masao Ido refined his style. His works emanate a sense of tranquility, and a certain nostalgia for a traditional Japan. His works have been exhibited all over the world, and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art has a very fine collection of his major pieces. Image
