"Chalice Paten Silver Vermeil Minerva Maison Evellin Rennes Crucifixion 20th Century"
Chalice and its paten in finely chiseled silver gilt, foot decorated with a representation of the crucifixion of Christ, knot AD JESUM PER MARIAM ("Towards Jesus through Mary"), bowl HIC EST ENIM CALIX SANGUINIS MEI ET AETERNI TESTAMENTI ("for this is the cup of my blood of the eternal alliance"), Minerva hallmark and silversmith VF, sold by Maison Evellin* in Rennes, early 20th century. This chalice is in good condition as is its paten. Sold in its original case (damaged hinge). This chalice and paten were consecrated on 10/11/1938 by Monsignor Mignen (1875-1939), archbishop of Dol, Rennes and Saint-Malo (certificate attached, see photo). Paten and bowl hallmarked. Please note: small shock and deformation on the foot (see red arrows in the last photo), worn box, micro-scratches and light wear from time, see photos. * The Évellin family is a French family of goldsmiths, bronze makers and chasuble-embroiderers, specializing in liturgical art, paramentics and the creation and restoration of goldsmithery. The current company is called Évellin Orfèvre. Since the creation of the activity in Nantes in 1822, several goldsmiths have succeeded from father to son. The activity quickly grew within the family to allow in 1924, the opening of a subsidiary in Rennes. The Évellin family was then supplier to the bishoprics, with goldsmith and embroidery productions that are distinguished for their quality of execution.
