"Caucasian Kazak Rug – Circa 1900, Hand-knotted"
Caucasus region, probably Kazak type, hand-woven around 1900. This rug is distinguished by its marked geometric composition typical of Kazak rugs. The central field features a large octagonal turquoise blue medallion on a burgundy background, flanked by two complex cruciform motifs, themselves centered by sky blue and red diamonds. These motifs are typical of Caucasian tribal traditions, sometimes interpreted as protective or spiritual symbols. Around the central field, stylized floral elements and geometric animals (probably birds and quadrupeds) reinforce the tribal aesthetic. The main border is decorated with a series of multicolored diamond patterns framed by serrated friezes, in shades of brown, blue, red and ivory.Color palette: • Main background: Deep burgundy • Central motifs: Sky blue, turquoise, vermillion red, ivory • Borders: Dark brown, ivory, touches of sky blue and redGeneral condition: Very good condition for a rug over 120 years old.
