"Bronze Rain Drum"
This bronze drum, inspired by the famous drums of the Dong Son culture, is a testament to the rich artisanal heritage of Southeast Asia. Cast in Thailand, Burma, or Laos toward the end of the 19th century, it features traditional motifs of concentric circles and raised ornaments, including small frogs arranged on the upper surface, symbols of fertility and prosperity. Although these drums are inspired by very ancient Vietnamese models, they probably date from a more recent period (19th century), while retaining the refinement and elegance of historical pieces. Their greenish patina and finely chiseled details illustrate the lasting influence of artisanal techniques passed down through the centuries. Ideal for collectors and lovers of Asian art, this drum is a choice piece that combines traditional aesthetics and regional authenticity, reflecting the cultural continuity of Southeast Asian artistic traditions. Diameter 61 CM X H 47 CM. Provenance: Claude de Marteau Collection Sold with certificate of provenance. A small lack on the edge of the tympanum (see photo).
