"Ernest Azema (1871-1917) The Flower Seller"
The warm and bright colors of the south in a Hispanic atmosphere for this flower seller, Andalusian or gypsy in 1909 by the painter Ernest Azema.
The work done in oil on canvas, is cleaned and restored, it is offered in a channel frame which measures 73 cm by 55 cm and 55 cm by 38 cm for the canvas alone.
It represents a young woman certainly Spanish offering flowers in a colorful and festive atmosphere.
A bright, cheerful and decorative work signed and dated 1909 lower left.

Marius Ernest Joseph Azéma is the son of Bernard François Azéma, mason, and Justine Assalit.
Among his brothers, Auguste (1868-1948) became a sculptor and Louis (1876-1963) will also be a painter.
In 1883, he left school to work as a masonry laborer with his father.
He entered the Regional School of Fine Arts in Montpellier where he studied painting with Ernest Michel, architecture with Alphonse Goudès and sculpture with Auguste Baussan.
In 1891, he completed his military service in the 81st Infantry Regiment, then arrived in Paris where he continued his training at the School of Fine Arts where he was a student in the studios of Fernand Cormon and Gustave Moreau, and more occasionally in those of Jean-Jacques Henner, Eugène Thirion, François Flameng or Alexandre Falguière.
He twice won the Second Grand Prix de Rome in 1900 and 1901.
He exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français between 1892 and 1912.
In 1909, he left the capital to settle in Marseille where he then lived at the Touring Hôtel, 28, cours Belsunce.
Single, he moved closer to his brother Auguste in Bessan, and died in Montpellier on December 21, 1917.
