Tulip-shaped silver chalice, richly decorated in repoussé, chased, and guilloché. The chalice rests on a circular, profiled ogee-shaped base, adorned with winged cherub heads alternating with cartouches depicting stylized acanthus leaves. The domed terrace is highlighted by a frieze of water leaves and adorned with coiled leathers, three oval medallions depicting the suffering Christ, Saint James, and the Virgin crushing a serpent, as well as Eucharistic symbols: vine, bunch of wheat, and rush. The shaft is made of rings and collars adorned with friezes of pearls, interlacing, and ropes. It is embellished with an ovoid knot decorated with Eucharistic symbols and palm leaves. The false cup features three medallions depicting the three theological virtues and echoes the floral motifs adorning the chalice's terrace. The interior of the cup is gilded. 950/1000 silver, Minerva hallmark. This chalice was made by the Parisian silversmith Alexandre Thierry (1823-1853).** His works are kept in the Treasury of Lourdes, at the Viviers seminary and in many other cathedrals in France.
