"Mons 1760, Louis XV Coffee Pot, Solid Silver, Pierre-joseph Levieux l'Ainé"
Sumptuous Louis XV period tripod coffee pot in solid silver with the hallmarks of the city of Mons for the year 1746 and of the master goldsmith Pierre-Joseph Levieux (1693-1771), eldest of the three Levieux brothers who were goldsmiths simultaneously in the middle of the eighteenth century in Mons. The Levieux brothers were members of a true dynasty of goldsmiths from Mons which began at the very beginning of the seventeenth century. The coffee pot that I present to you here is a typical product of their production, rather heavy compared to the coffee pots of other goldsmiths from Mons, executed with extreme finesse and provided with some magnificent details such as the very beautiful fretel of the lid, the three pretty feet in cast silver, the "rocaille" pouring spout which follows the scalloped movement of the body and the possibility of dismantling the lid thanks to the removable pin of its very beautiful hinge. It is hallmarked with large, very legible hallmarks, the tower and the monogram AE for the city of Mons, the year 60 and the master goldsmith's mark depicting the head of a bearded old man. It weighs a very generous 1175 grams of solid silver.
