In Italo-Byzantine style, It is a work of the 19th century propably made by a French or Italian master.
A profund emotion emanates from this iconographic representation of the eleousa type (meaning tenderness in Greek) where Mary and her son embrace lovingly, cheek to cheek.
This art work is finely painted on a wooden panel on a gilded background (symbol of divine light).
The original icon of Our Lady of Grace is preserved since 1450 at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Grace of Cambrai.
It constitutes a bridge between the tradition of Byzantine icons and the Italian Quattrocento - artistic movement of the 15th century which saw the beginning of the Renaissance. It is therefore a major work in the history of Christian art.
Our icon is in a very good state of general preservation. Small losses, cracks and wear of time consistent with the age of this painting. Some slight restorations.
This work is sold with a certificate of authenticity and a full description.
