"Games Table Stamped Tric Trac Jacquet Backgammon Louis XVI Period 16th XVIII 18th Century"
Louis XVI period tric-trac backgammon game table in blackened fruitwood and veneer fillets, stamped Jacob Jauffman, a cabinetmaker of German origin, who became a master in 1770. He worked in Lyon, successively on rue des Deux Angles, quai de Retz and finally 58 rue de la Vieille-Monnaie where he is still mentioned in 1808. This neoclassical table of a certain sobriety has as its only decoration antique drops at the top of the sheathed base, the edges of which are highlighted by veneer fillets. This table with sliding base has a checkerboard on the upper board, and reveals a tric-trac, with two complete sets of ebony and ivory counters. It will fit perfectly into an interior to recreate a company lounge, where games were given pride of place in old homes.
