Set Of Twelve Solid Silver Cutlery Sets.

This Louis XV style set consists of a suite of twelve large cutlery pieces. The very exuberant decoration is characteristic of the Louis XV style production of the second half of the 19th century. The spatulas are engraved with the initials IG. Of very good quality, these cutlery pieces are in an exceptional state of preservation, they show no wear and the teeth are perfect. The hallmarks with which they are struck represent a Minerva's head, a hallmark in force since 1838, as well as the diamond-shaped master's mark which includes the initials PQ for Pierre François Queillé, an important family of silversmiths who produced from the beginning of the 19th century until the 1930s. Mr. David Allan tells us about him in his work entitled "Le couvert et la coutellerie de table française du XIXe siècle": "Their production was sold by goldsmiths in boutiques and department stores, and we often see their master's mark on the cutlery of the Froment-Meurice and Odiot houses. On page 102, Mr. David Allan presents a series of forks from the same silversmith whose spatulas have a decoration identical to the cutlery we are offering, he dates them around 1875.
