Object description :

"Germanic Cuirassier's Mantelhelm Armet Circa 1600"
This armet is probably Germanic, a very similar example is exhibited, mounted on a half cuirassier armor, dated from the 4th quarter of the 16th century, at the Museum of Art and History of Geneva. Other models are noted in German references as dating from 1580 to 1620, so to be on the safe side, we will date it from the first quarter of the 17th century.
The SKULL is constructed in 2 parts, like the morions. These two parts join at the comb, the left part covering the right part. At the back of the skullis riveted an iron plume holder.
The BUFF = FACE PROTECTION
The lower movable part, or chin piece, of the buff is forged from a single piece of metal. It is equipped with 2 hooks which ensure the maintenance with the rear part of the skull, and with the upper part of the face protection.
At the lower part of this chin guard is fixed a gorget made of single piece of metal.
The upper movable part of the face protection , or "ventail", is riveted with the visor, it has elongated rectangular openings.
These two movable parts are articulated around 2 large lateral rivets.
At the back of the skullis riveted a neck protector made of a single piece of metal. The interior of the armet reveals the rivets still bearing remains of hardened leather. These are therefore rivets having a role of maintaining the leather and not purely decorative rivets.
The item is in its state of discovery, we will note at the level of the skull some very small oxidation holes, oabout one  millimeter diameter , which can if one wishes be very easily closed.
