"Yena" cult figure collected in the village of Mino in Papua New Guinea. The yena figure is associated with the first ceremony organized to celebrate the yam harvest (a cycle of three ceremonies in total), a sacred tuber venerated throughout Melanesia. This sculpture symbolizes the planting period and evokes the tuber as well as the digging stick used for its transplantation. These traditions are still strong in the Washkuk hills area.
