Paul SARRUT (Grenoble 1882 - Montpellier 1969) "Gabares in gray weather in Bordeaux" Oil on canvas signed lower right 27x45 cm Paul SARRUT (1882-1969) was a French draftsman, painter and engraver trained by Léon Bonnat at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, and based in Bordeaux at the beginning of his career. He is known in particular for having produced numerous portraits of Sikh soldiers during the First World War, while he was a liaison officer with Indian combatants serving with the British troops. He also brought back drawings from his travels to Djibouti and Indochina, and produced views of the port of Bordeaux.
