Beautiful work by the animal painter André Marchand which represents a chestnut horse.
The details of the horse's body, the play of light and shadow are perfectly mastered.
A student of the painters Léon Bonnat, Edouard Detaille and Simon Toudouze, André Marchand is a lithographer and an animal painter.
He is a member of the Salon des artistes français from 1898. He receives several awards during his participations including a medal in 1904 and 1920. André Marchand stays in the summer at the Lizelier mill in Iteuil in the Vienne to paint the countryside.
His favorite subjects are portraits of horses. He regularly goes to the horse races in Paris to admire and paint his exceptional horses.
Dimensions: 32.5 x 41 cm without frame and 46 x 54 cm with its modern wooden frame.
A slight loss to the panel, without impact, is to be noted at the top right.
Our work can be paired with its counterpart of the same size and frame.
