"Snow Bucket"
This is a snow or ice bucket that was used in the kitchens of the yamens to prepare sorbets. It is very solidly built like a miniature barrel and circled with a thick copper torus at its base. Originally covered with vermillion lacquer to ensure its watertightness, over time and successive washes the lacquer has taken on a superb powdery tint which adds to its charm. The knob for the lid is made of white porcelain. The two handles, left in natural wood, have been nicely carved with a raised vegetal gold.
